Knight Fencing Inspires the Next Generation at Selsey Academy Careers Fair
Danny Knight, deputy chair of the AFI, recently represented Knight Fencing at the Selsey Academy Careers Fair, introducing students to the diverse and exciting world of fencing.
The event welcomed students from Years 7 through 11, providing a great opportunity to share insights and showcase projects that go beyond traditional garden fencing. Knight Fencing wowed students with stories of high-profile projects like Longleat Safari Park, Legoland, Goodwood Motor Circuit, and even outdoor velodromes—highlighting the surprising scope and potential within our industry.
Despite competing for attention with the RAF and Army, the day was a rewarding experience. Hundreds of students engaged in meaningful conversations, challenging perceptions and opening their minds to fencing’s diverse applications. A highlight came from a Year 11 student whose genuine curiosity and interest in an apprenticeship lifted spirits and underscored the impact we can make in inspiring future talent.
This event underscored the value of connecting with young people and encouraging them to consider a career in fencing. If each of us could reach out in our communities, together, we can reshape how our industry is perceived and attract the next generation of skilled professionals. Knight Fencing is already planning a return visit, this time at Chichester High School Academy.
