Information Management Initiative
The CLC, working with nima, has launched the Information Management Initiative (IMI) with the aim of improving the management of information and data across the sector. Building on the BIM and IM mandates, the IMI sets out a sector‐wide directive, which includes over‐arching principles and a route map to a consistent approach to managing information by 2030, to deliver significant improvements in cost, value, health and safety, sustainability, and performance.
Further information on the IMI and how organisations can support it can be found on the nima website.
Increased Infrastructure Investment
The Government has announced plans to reform pensions to unlock up to £80 billion of investment in infrastructure. The Pension Schemes Bill, which will be introduced to Parliament next year, will consolidate defined contribution pension schemes, pooling assets from 86 separate Local Government Pension Scheme authorities, to create a number of ‘mega‐funds’, which are able to take advantage of their size to invest in assets that have higher growth potential like infrastructure.
The New Towns Taskforce, an independent expert advisory panel established by the Government to support the delivery of the next generation of new towns, has launched a call for evidence for potential developments containing 10,000 or more homes. The deadline for submissions is Friday 13 December.
Funding of £47 million has been made available to progress 28,000 stalled homes across England as part of the Local Nutrient Mitigation Fund, which is designed to boost housebuilding whilst protecting the environment.
Following the independent report on legal challenges to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), which sets out 10 recommendations to reduce barriers to development and resolve legal challenges more effectively, the Government has launched a consultation seeking views on the recommendations by Monday 30 December
Building Safety Culture Change ‐ Have Your Say
The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is developing a framework to introduce consistency and structure around the topic of building safety culture change. Its new project, Facilitating Culture Change in the Built Environment, aims to set out what high‐level factors drive a positive building safety culture and support organisations and individuals within the sector to improve culture.
The BSR is looking for feedback from businesses across the supply chain on its draft culture framework to make sure it will work across diverse professions and trades. The BSR will be hosting a series of online focus groups in December and January, and any members interested in participating should submit an expression of interest to the BSR.
The initial findings will be presented at our first Building Safety call of 2025 on Tuesday 28 January and your nominated Building Safety representative should have received a calendar invitation directly.
