Our Boards & Committees

By sitting on key advisory boards and working groups, we ensure that the needs, expertise and real-world experience of our members shape the future of regulation, skills, and standards across the sector.

Our active involvement means members’ voices are heard where it matters most — influencing national policy, improving safety and quality standards, and securing a sustainable future for the industry.

Our Representation Includes:

  • National Highways Sector Schemes Committees
AFI contributes to the ongoing development and review of the standards governing roadside infrastructure, ensuring that fencing, vehicle restraint systems and related works meet the highest levels of safety, performance, and quality.
  • British Standards Institute (BSI) Committee
We help propose, draft, and revise British Standards that define the quality, durability, and safety of fencing materials and installations, setting national benchmarks and driving continual improvement.
  • FISS/CSCS Committee
AFI plays a key role in shaping the skills and competency frameworks that underpin the industry. Our involvement ensures certification schemes remain relevant, robust, and aligned with the needs of modern fencing businesses.
  • CLC Super Sector 10 Framework
Following the Building Safety Act reforms, this cross-industry group is redefining competency and compliance pathways. AFI represents the fencing sector to ensure new frameworks are practical, effective, and reflect on-site realities.
  • Build UK
As part of the UK’s leading construction industry alliance, AFI works to influence policy, promote sustainable growth, and support initiatives that improve recruitment, training, and retention across the fencing workforce.
  • Trailblazing Committee for the Apprenticeship
AFI is directly involved in designing and updating the fencing apprenticeship standard, ensuring qualifications meet industry demand and equip the next generation with the skills they need to succeed.
