AFI members sweep the podium at British Open Fencing Championship 2026

The Association of Fencing Industries (AFI) was proud to see its members deliver an outstanding performance at the McVeigh Parker British Open Fencing Championship 2026, with AFI contractors claiming all three podium positions at this year’s competition.

Held during the APF Show at Ragley Estate’s hill, the championship attracted competitors from across the UK and Europe and once again proved to be one of the standout attractions of the show. Crowds of visitors gathered throughout the day to watch some of the industry’s finest fencing contractors put their skills to the test in a demanding competition that celebrates the highest standards of agricultural fencing.

This year’s championship featured 15 two-person teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Switzerland. Working against the clock, competitors were challenged to construct 60 metres of stock fencing, including a turn, strutted and box strainers, using hand tools only. Every detail mattered, with judging focused on the accuracy, quality and finish of the completed fences.

The standard across the field was exceptionally high, making for a closely fought contest and reinforcing the reputation of the championship as one of the most respected events in the fencing calendar.

Leading the way were AFI members Mark Evans and Nic Quan, who successfully defended the title they won in 2024. Their attention to detail, consistency and craftsmanship impressed the judges and secured their place as British Open Fencing Champions 2026.

AFI members Stuart Miles and Peter Redgwell also enjoyed a remarkable day. Having already won the British Open Speed Fencing Competition earlier in the event, they went on to secure second place in the main championship, completing an impressive double podium finish.

Third place went to fellow AFI members Matt Cooper and Louis Davis, whose fence combined excellent workmanship with the fastest build time of the day, demonstrating both efficiency and quality under pressure.

The clean sweep of the podium highlights the depth of talent, experience and professionalism within the AFI membership.

AFI congratulates all competitors who took part and particularly the members who represented the association so well throughout the competition.

With another successful event in the history books, the fencing industry will now look forward to the next British Open Fencing Championship in 2028.
