27 March Update – site operating procedures, job retention and income support

The message is clear: Stay at home, avoid all social interaction, and only travel to work if absolutely necessary.

Following the publication of industry-agreed Site Operating Procedures, specifically in response to the risks created by Coronavirus, Build UK Contractor members are assessing their activities and preparing to continue or resume work on sites where the procedures can be complied with.

If there are situations where it is necessary to work, please be aware that, the Build UK Site Operating Procedures must be followed. If this cannot be done the work must cease.

Transport to and from sites remains a significant challenge, specifically in central London and Transport for London (TfL) is urging people to avoid travelling during the busiest times which are 05:45 -7:30 and 16:00-17:30.

Self employed income support scheme

The Chancellor has announced that there will be income support measures for self-employed workers at the same level as that offered to employees. Self-employed workers can receive a taxable grant worth 80% of their average monthly trading profit over the last three years up to £2,500 per month for at least three months. HMRC will contact individuals once the scheme is operational.

More details are now available on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. We will publish further guidance as soon as it is available.

As always please give us a call if you are unsure about any of this. We may not have the answer but we will help you find out if we can.

Remember: Stay at home, avoid all social interaction, and only travel to work if absolutely necessary. Take care and keep well.
