World Mental Health Day

It was World Mental Health Day Friday 10 October which gives a chance for everyone to focus on the importance of good mental health. Employers have a legal duty to prevent work‐related stress and support mental health, and there are a range of resources available, including the HSE Working Minds and Lighthouse Club Help Inside the Hard Hat campaigns.

Fleet Safety Focus –  Vehicle Roadworthiness

The legislation on vehicle roadworthiness is very clear – your vehicle must always be safe and roadworthy.

It’s also important to know that the law applies to both the driver and the operator – they are what is known as jointly and severally liable. In other words, the employee (the driver) and the employer (the operator) have joint responsibility for vehicle roadworthiness.

There are many vehicles on our roads that are simply not roadworthy. Up to a third of all vans will fail an MOT on first inspection – on lights, tyres, suspensions or brakes. If these essential areas are not given a cursory check before an MOT, are they being checked at all?

You can access this month’s Fleet Safety Focus here

It includes a link to download a file of useful resources for you to share with drivers, including:

  • An article on vehicle checks and vehicle roadworthiness.
  • Short messages on speed for sharing through PDAs
  • Roadworthiness poster for your notice boards
  • 10-min pre-recorded toolbox talk video
  • Van Driver Toolkit & Car Driver Toolkit PDF factsheets

New AFI Website Launch – Important Member Update

We’re excited to let you know that the brand-new AFI website will be going live very soon! The new site will make it easier than ever to access member resources, update your details, and stay connected with everything happening in the fencing industry.

As part of this upgrade, all AFI members will need to reset their passwords before they can log in to the new site. When the website goes live, you’ll receive an email with a secure link to complete this process.

🔎 Important: Occasionally, these automated emails can be filtered into junk or spam folders — so please keep an eye out there if you don’t see it in your inbox.

We’ll notify you again once the new site is officially live, but for now, please be aware that a password reset email is on its way soon.

Ministerial Support

The new Construction Minister, Chris McDonald, attended his first CLC meeting earlier this week where he confirmed his support for delivering the recently published Infrastructure Pipeline. He is keen to ‘Power Up Construction’ to realise the Government’s mission of economic growth and will be joining the next in person CLC meeting in November.
